Introduction to Gong Playing

The gong is not just an instrument. It is a portal - a wave of sound that carries you beyond thought, beyond story, into the stillness of your own being.

This four-hour immersion opens the doorway to gong meditation, playing, and using sound as a bridge into inner stillness. Whether you decide to continue into the full training or simply want a strong foundation for personal practice, this module gives you all the essential tools to begin.

What you'll explore

In these four hours together, we’ll move through both theory and practice:

Sound as medicine — how vibration affects the physical, emotional, and energetic bodies, with a glimpse into the science of sound healing.
The story of the gong — its origins, traditions, and its role in contemporary sound work.
Meeting the gong — different types and categories, how they are made, what to consider when choosing your own gong, plus an introduction to mallets, stands, and setup.
Playing practice — posture, preparing the gong, where and how to strike, and essential stroke techniques. You’ll have hands-on time to explore and feel what’s possible.

Next steps after Module 1 (Instroduction to Gong Playing)

After completing this introductory training, you may choose to continue with Module 2 and Module 3, each offered as an individual training. In these modules, you will go deeper into playing techniques, broaden your repertoire, and learn how to confidently guide full gong meditations and sessions. Whether this is a stand-alone experience or the first step in a longer journey, Introduction to Gong Playing is where your dialogue with the gong begins.
